TheĀ spring and summer of 2007 has been very difficult for us. It started when we lost Morgan, our oldest. Morgan was 15 1/2. Some have said "at least he lived a long life"...well, that is true, and we are grateful for all of the years we had with Morgan. But we found ourselves so lost without him. He had always been here and to suddenly not have him by our sides...He was such a good buddy...what were we going to do without him?10 days after losing Morgan, Poetry was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. One month later, we held Poetry as she took her last breath. We wondered how this could happen so fast and why now, so soon after saying goodbye to Morgan. We weren't quite sure what to do without Poetry, our little "star". We now needed to focus on Cruiser. Cruiser had been battling cancer since last year and was slowly losing ground. A month after the loss of Poetry, we said farewell to Cruiser. No one in the house knew what to do without Cruiser. She was the Queen...every dog seemed at a loss as how to go on without their sister and friend. This just wasn't fair. We knew she was going to a better place, but we selfishly wanted her to remain with us.The sadness in our home was too overwhelming to understand. In a 10 week period, we lost three of our family members. Then we received our final blow when we heard that Phoebe, Stony's daughter, Bergen and Stewart's sister, had died suddenly. This seemed all too much to bear. We wondered why this had happened. What were we supposed to learn from all of this loss?As we struggle through the process of grieving the loss of our family and friends, we put a lot of energy into loving and enjoying and appreciating the family we still have. As we said goodbye to each of our friends, we made a promise to them...that we would be fine and that it was ok for them to go on to whatever was next for them. So, we are fine. Sometimes we don't feel that way...but we are and we will continue to heal and remember the gifts each one of our friends gaveĀ us....We love you Morgan, Poetry, Cruiser, and Phoebe...
